Crown moldings are very useful in enhancing the interior of a room. There are intricate and cute designs that can change the appearance of a room magically. People install them at the edge of the wall where the moldings touch the ceiling. It is not very difficult to install crown moldings. The test lies in cutting crown molding angles precisely, so that they fit in the corner perfectly. The corner at the edge of the wall looks perfectly square, at a 90-degree angle. However, if you measure with tools you will find that the walls are not always even.

In case you leave gaps while installing crown moldings, it gives a very bad appearance. Hence, you have to cut the mold angles to the ‘T’ before you install them. You might need to cut the molds at 45 degrees. Then combine the two pieces of such molds together at the corner. This creates a perfect 90 degrees that stays at the edge. You will have to join the outer and inner piece of mold.

When you cut crown molding angles you must link two pieces at their ends. One piece is stuck heavily on the interior corner. You cut the other to fit in the angle perfectly well. Then, you place it over the first mold. Thus, the mold that is fixed will be of a perfect angle to fit in the corner like a perfect piece of jigsaw puzzle.

Tools – It is very important that you arrange the right tools before the installation process begins. A coping saw, and a miter saw will be very helpful in cutting the mold angles. In case the mold installation involves a huge project, you might also need to invest in a compound miter jig. This instrument will help you get the right corners. It will be much easier for you to cut angles using this device.

Practice – To get the perfect angle, it is a recommendation that you try on smaller pieces first. Once you get a hang of it, you can cut the rest of the mold pieces. This way you will not end up wasting any molds. Such molds do not come cheap, and it is important that you get it right while cutting.

Measure – The most important thing in cutting molding angles is taking the proper measurement. You must use tools for this. If your measurements are very wrong, you will never get the precise angle. To be on the safer side, I would advise you to measure twice before you cut.

Markings – There are two pieces of the mold. One is for the interior, and the other for exterior. Therefore, you must mark the molds with ‘I’ or ‘O’ to suggest where they should be fixed. This will ensure that the crown angles perfectly touch the wall edges, and leave no spaces in between. It will save you from fixing the wrong piece at the wrong place.

Before you start the process of cutting crown molding angles, it would really help if you see some video demonstrations, or read about it. On the Internet itself, you will find a lot of information on this. Going through them will guide you in the process of crown mold installation.
